The Master and Margarita

The novel "The Master and Margarita" by Mikhail Bulgakov was written between 1928 and 1940. However, the full version of the novel was not published until 1968 in Frankfurt on the Main. The character of Margarita was based on Bulgakov's wife, Elena Sergeyevna. The action of the novel takes place in the 1930s in Moscow and in ancient Jerusalem. The events unfold simultaneously in the contemporary world and in biblical times.
