Pan Tadeusz

"Pan Tadeusz, or the Last Foray in Lithuania" is an epic poem by Adam Mickiewicz, published in two volumes in 1834. This national epic was written between 1833 and 1834 in Paris. It consists of twelve books written in verse, using the Polish thirteen-syllable alexandrine. The action takes place over five days in the year 1811 and one day in the year 1812. The epic is a staple on the Polish reading list. In 2012, it was publicly read as part of a social initiative promoting the knowledge of Polish literature called the National Reading of Pan Tadeusz.
